What is an eTag?
An eTag, which may also be referred to as a temporary tag or a temp tag, is a 12’’ x 6’’ piece of paper printed with vehicle-specific information. This tag is affixed to the rear license plate display area of a vehicle when it is purchased from an automotive dealership.
The National DMV states that eTags are required to be placed on all vehicles (new, used, motorcycles, and trailers) when sold. These temporary tags must be placed over the rear metal license plate area, regardless of whether the customer wants to keep the old plates, until the official registration sticker is issued by the county tax office. The eTags can only be removed when the customer receives the vehicle registration sticker and/or the new metal license plates.
